Isn’t there someone you’d like to thank for changing your life?
IOUBig.net lets you tell the world
IOUBig.net is the site on which to post your letter of thanks to the person who inspired you to do something that changed your life for the better.
Maybe it was your tough-as-nails ballet teacher, your know-it-all first cousin (who really did know it all) or the high school coach who saved you from a world of pain by convincing you that you had a brighter future photographing football games than playing in them. Maybe it was the judge who gave you the choice of going to jail or joining the Army.
Inspiring people appear in the strangest guises at the oddest times. All we know is that our lives are never quite the same after they’ve touched us. It is to them we say, “I owe you big.”
For Bill Danoff, co-writer of John Denver’s “Country Roads” and member of Starland Vocal Band (of “Afternoon Delight” fame), it was the late record producer and musical innovator Ben Selvin, who helped Danoff get his start in the record business.
For globe-trotting wine and food critic Roger Morris, it was one of his first newspaper editors, the no-nonsense but immensely encouraging K. W. Lee, who got him into graduate school and, thus, out of the draft at the height of the Vietnam War.
For outdoorsman Warren Duzak, it was the late herpetologist Carl Kauffeld, whose book, Snakes and Snake Hunting, “opened a whole new world” for him when he was 12 years old.
WHO WAS IT FOR YOU?
You can post your thank-you letter—or letters—for free. There’s also a space for you to post a picture of the person you’re honoring, if you wish, or of yourself if you think the honoree would like to see the fine person you’ve become. IOUBig.net asks only that you observe these guidelines:
- All letters must be complimentary. This is not a site for being sarcastic or settling scores.
- Each letter must state your first and last names and a first and last name of the person to whom you’re paying tribute. These will enable viewers to search the site for specific people. Who knows, before long maybe someone you’ve influenced will be thanking you.
- Write your letter in the space provided on the Submit Your Tribute page.
- Photos must be identified as well.
Let the praises begin!
